H B Dissanayaka (1992 – 1995)
Mr. Heen Banda Disanayaka was the ninth Governor, assuming duties in July 1992 and vacating his position in November 1995.
Mr. H B Disanayaka studied at Kekirawa Central College and Ananda Shastharalaya, Kotte. He completed his University education with a BA Degree (Hons.) in Sinhala from the University of Peradeniya.
Mr. Disanayaka started his career as an Assistant Government Agent and subsequently became an Assistant Secretary to the Public Service Commission in 1964. He eventually functioned as the Government Agent of Kurunegala and served as General Manager of the Industrial Development Board during 1972-1974. Thereafter, Mr. Disanayaka served as Deputy Director General Customs from 1974 to 1976 and was appointed as Director General Customs in 1976 in which capacity he served the Sri Lanka Customs till 1987. He was the Alternate Executive Director of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) from 1987 - 1989. In 1989 he became the Deputy Secretary to the Treasury and it was during his tenure as Deputy Secretary that he was presented with the opportunity of becoming Governor of the Central Bank.
Thereafter, Mr. Disanayaka was appointed as the Alternate Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) from 1996 – 1998.
